Transactions: add, edit & organize
Everything you spend, earn, or move is a transaction. This guide covers adding one, editing every field, splitting, tagging, flagging, and marking it cleared.
Add a transaction
The round + button (bottom-right on every screen) opens the transaction editor. On desktop you can press Ctrl/Cmd + N, or use + Add transaction on the Spending tab.
- Tap the + button. The New transaction editor opens.
- Leave the top toggle on Charge for spending or income. (Use Transfer to move money between your own accounts - see Spending vs transfers.)
- Set the Date, type a Payee, and choose an Account.
- Enter the Amount. Use the − / + toggle to choose outflow (money out) or inflow (money in). You can even type math like
12.50+1.49. - Pick a Category. For income, leave it on ⭐ Ready to Assign.
- Add a Memo if you like, then tap Save.
Edit a transaction
Tap any row in the register to open the editor. Every field is editable:
- Date, Payee, Amount (with the −/+ direction toggle), and Memo.
- Icon - tap the icon tile to pick a custom emoji, or leave it on Automatic icon.
- Category - reassign it, or Split… it (below).
- Account - this is also how you move a transaction to a different account: just change the Account dropdown and save.
- Tags and Cleared - see below.
Tap Save to keep changes, or Delete to remove the transaction. Deletes are undoable with Ctrl/Cmd + Z or the undo toast.
Split a transaction
One receipt, several categories? Split it.
- Open the transaction and tap Split… next to the Category field.
- Allot creates two legs. Set each leg's Category, amount, and optional memo.
- Tap + Add split for more legs; use the ✕ to remove one.
- Watch the running total - it must read BALANCED before you can save. If it's off, Allot tells you by how much.
- Tap Save.
Tags
Tags group transactions across categories - perfect for a trip or a project. In the editor, find Tags · tap a trip tag or type your own. Tap an existing tag chip to toggle it, or type a new one (comma-separated) to create it. You manage your tag list from the Trips section.
Flag a transaction
Flags are colored markers for follow-up. From a register row's ⋯ (More actions) menu, choose Flag and pick a color: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, or Purple - or No flag to clear it.
Cleared vs pending
Each transaction has a status you can toggle from the row or the editor's Cleared row:
- Uncleared - logged, but not yet posted at the bank.
- ✓ Cleared - posted at the bank.
- 🔒 Reconciled - locked by an account reconcile. Unlock it before editing - see Reconciling an account.
Troubleshooting
I can't save a split
The legs must add up to the transaction total - the total row must read BALANCED. Adjust a leg's amount until it does.
I deleted a transaction by mistake
Press Ctrl/Cmd + Z or tap the undo toast right after. The delete is reversible.
The category dropdown won't let me edit
The row may be 🔒 Reconciled (locked). Unlock it first from the register, then edit.
